Learn Simple Design and Layout Techniques
Peter Jensen, Peter S. Jensen and Associates The Session Developing accessible trails is in the forefront of trail development nationwide. This 2 day workshop will focus on discussion of design parameters including the proposed federal accessibility guidelines, construction methodology, and design/layout principles. Sample trails will be reviewed and assessed for accessibility. A majority of the workshop will focus on field layout of accessible trails with an emphasis on creating aesthetically pleasing and sustainable trails (why build it if isn't going to be nice!). Please bring clothing for outdoor work. Up to 12 participants can be handled in this workshop and there will be up to 4 field groups. Tools and equipment supplied. Knowledge of inclinometers useful but not required. Cost is 350 dollars per person which includes lunch.
Peter Jensen is the principal of Peter S. Jensen and Associates, LLC based out of Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He is a nationally recognized expert in the accessible trails industry. He served on the Regulatory Negotiation Committee of the US Access Board, and has been integral in the development of proposed Accessibility Guidelines for Trails and Outdoor Developed Areas. He is also a skilled instructor in the design, construction, planning and maintenance of natural surface trails that are both sustainable and as inherently accessible as an environment will allow. This workshop will be entirely outdoors, in the vicinity of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Our group will meet eacg morning, Sunday March 13 and Monday March 14 at 7:45 am in the lobby of the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
