MacArthur-Burney Falls State Park, California
Detail of Overlook and Trail Project

First main overlook with curved stone walls, waterfall in background

First and highest overlook of Burney Falls. High stone retaining walls/railings, stone steps, paved trail.

Building a mortared stone wall Filling geoweb foundation with gravel
Mortared wall construction. Because of the steep cross slope, these walls are often over 20' high. Geoweb levels filled with gravel form the foundation of the paved trail. Gravel was delivered from above with the flexible culvert.

Delivering gravel down to site via tube Building mortared stone steps
Gravel delivery. Gravel was fed into the top with a front end loader and came out in a cloud of dust. Mortaring native stone steps into the trail.

The lower switchback is also an
overlook for the waterfall.
