Exclusive membership and sponsorship
PTBA membership is limited to private-sector sole proprietorships, partnerships, or corporations generating income from trail design, trail construction, or related activities. PTBA members include professional trail specialists across the United States and Canada, and we’re actively seeking new trail contractor members.

To help ensure that all members are professional-level trail contractors, new members must be sponsored by an existing member and approved by a vote of the current membership. Keeping our membership at a high level of professionalism helps continue PTBA’s excellent reputation—and ensures that you look more professional by being a member. If you don’t know any existing members, you can contact PTBA’s president or any of the officers who can sponsor you or provide more information. PTBA’s officer list.

Application procedure—deadline is January 30 of any given year
First, please fill in and submit the form below. If you’re serious about joining, fill in the entire form completely. If at this time you’re curious and want to know more and/or you don’t have a sponsor, fill in your contact info and provide at least some info as to your experience, mention that you’re looking for information, and someone will get back to you shortly. You can also contact any PTBA member or officer by phone for more information, but please be aware that many of them, being trail contractors themselves, are often in the field during the construction season.

Because new members need to be approved by the membership, prospective members need to attend the PTBA Business Meeting which begins the annual Trailbuilders Conference in Reno, Nevada (see conference info). The next Business Meeting is March 11, 2008. This is currently the only time of year at which new members can be accepted.

At the Business Meeting, please be prepared to make a brief (five-minute) presentation to the membership in which you present your qualifications as a professional trail designer, builder, and/or contractor organized as a sole proprietorship, partnership, or corporation generating income from trail design, trail construction, or related activities. A resume, photographs or slides of your projects, references, or other documentation will be useful. Members will then vote whether or not to accept you as a member. (This process sounds much worse than it actually is—everyone is friendly and experienced trail designers and builders with good reputations are always welcomed.)

Since the Business Meeting is part of the annual Trailbuilders Conference, you should also register for the conference. Register as a non-member. If you are accepted as a member, we’ll charge you for your annual membership fee but credit you for the substantial difference between the member and non-member conference registration fees. Whether or not you are accepted as a member, please enjoy the conference.

Membership Dues
PTBA membership dues are currently $200 per year regardless of your number of employees. Membership runs from one calendar year to the next and must be renewed by the beginning of the annual conference.

We look forward to hearing from you.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
The following information is used to help evaluate you as a knowledgeable and professional trail contractor. It is not posted on the website or provided to the public in any form. If you are accepted as a member, though, you can share any or all of this information or more through your own company web page(s).

Your sponsor
If you know which PTBA member will sponsor you, please name that member:

Background and company description
Please describe your experience in trailbuilding (i.e., trail design, construction, and/or maintenance) in terms of how that experience qualifies you as a professional-level trail contractor.
  • You can include all of your trailbuiliding experience in both your current company and from previous trailbuilding experience. If your company concentrates on particular types of trail work, please elaborate. Typical information would include past clients, years of experience, formal education, awards/recognition, and special or well-developed abilities.
  • If you have references, please list them. You can also mail or email material to your sponsor including brochures, marketing materials for your company, photos, resumes, word processor files, letters of recommendation, etc. If you have a website or other online documentation of your work, you can include URLs for that documentation.
  • If you have other occupations or interests relevant to your work as a trail contractor, please describe those as well.
  • This is your chance to paint a well-rounded picture of yourself as a trail contractor. Look at this as a process of self-discovery and the beginning of future marketing of yourself as a contractor. Use as much space as you like.

TIP: You might find it easier to compose your response in a word processor, then copy and paste it into this form.
