For many members, its much easier and far less expensive to have one or more web pages in the Professional Trailbuilders Association website than it is to obtain and maintain their own domains. Your photos are scanned and your pages are created and maintained by PTBAs webmaster for reasonable, one-time fees. Once your pages are created, they will remain as long as your membership continues. Small updates are free, while major updates incur one-time fees.
Start by speaking with the webmaster (me), currently Troy Scott Parker (phone 303-530-1785 or email
) to discuss your general needs and situation. Because I also have a desktop publishing business, I have software, high-quality scanners for reflective art and 35 mm slides and negatives, and graphic design skills to create attractive, quick-loading web pages for you. To see pages from other members, follow the company name links on the master members page. Im also a decent writer, editior, and interface designer, as well as trail designer and trailbuilder, so Im familiar with what youre doing.
Page layout and content
You can have one or more pages. These dont have to follow any particular format, and are often designed along the lines of a resume, marketing info, or self-promotional material you supply. As a result, every members pages look different from everyone elses. At the same time, I also use some common layout styles and colors so that your pages are consistent with the look and feel of the rest of the site. The idea is to preserve your individuality within the association.
Please note that a web page has no set correlation to pages in a word processor file. Many pages of information in a word processor file can fit on a single web page.
Fees
Fees are based on what you actually use. These are all one-time fees paid directly to the webmaster (i.e., me) for my professional design services on your behalf. These fees are lower than what I would charge to do in an independent domain because there are existing styles and components that can be tailored and used on your page at less cost than designing from scratch. Also, there are no periodic renewal feesthe pages will remain on the site for the duration of your PTBA membership.

Submitting your information
Text: You will need to write your own copy (text). Although this can be submitted as typed hardcopy, its greatly appreciated if you send a word processor file instead. You can use any word processor you like (I can read files form all of them) and attach the file to an email message.
Photos: You can send slides (preferred), prints, negatives, or scanned files. If sending prints, please DO NOT send prints made on computer printers since these images are made of tiny dots that interfere with the scanners own scan dots and create nasty interference patterns. In general, I can get better scans from slides or color negatives than from prints, although prints will work fine. You can send digital photos or scans made on your own scanner, but my scannersbeing high-end professional-level scannersare likely to do a better job. I'll also color correct and optimize your photos from reproduction on the web. If you like, I can also provide you with a CD-ROM of the high-res scans for your own future use (such as in a brochure).
Photo captions: For prints, use sticky notes to write a caption and stick it to the back of each photo. For slides, negatives, or digital files, please provide typed captions in a word-processor file and use numbers or letter codes to key the captions to the images or filenames. For any caption, typically youll want to identify the name of the project, the land management agency, project location, date, and what is special about the photo.
