WORKSHOP TITLE:

Introduction to Mini Excavator Operation Workshop - Nov 14-15, 2016

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

This two day workshop will teach students the basic maintenance and operation techniques for operating a mini excavator in a trail building setting. This is a very hands on workshop, oriented towards obtaining a basic understanding of machine maintenance, loading and unloading process, machine operation techniques in a variety of trail building environments. Mini excavator proficiency requires many many hours of education and on-the-job training, so expect this workshop to focus on the basics. It is designed to be combined with the Introduction to Mechanized Trail Building Workshop, to allow participants greater practice and time in the saddle. Participants will leave this workshop with a general understanding of how a mini ex can improve trailbuilding efficiency, and a thorough understanding of the knowledge required to use the machine effectively in this environment. m

Topics covered will include:

  • Machine operation and safety
  • Loading, unloading and transportation of the machine
  • Basic partial and full bench trail construction with an excavator
  • Aesthetics and masking of construction impacts
  • Advanced excavator tips and tricks for increased productivity

Students will learn both the theory behind and the practical implementation of the trail building process using a mini-ex.

We need a minimum of 6 students to make this workshop go, and a maximum of 10
