Position: Youth Programs Crew Leader

Location: Office in Steamboat Springs, CO - Crews will work in Routt County and NW Colorado
Crews: Yampa Valley Service Learning Crew (SLC) – participants age 11-13
Yampa Valley Community Development Crew (CDC) – participants age 14-15
Regional Service Crew (RSC) – participants age 16-18
Regional SLC & CDC – participants ages 10-16 (various communities across NW Colorado)

Season Dates: SLC tentative program dates May 23rd – August 18th
CDC tentative program dates May 11th – August 18th
RSC tentative program dates May 11th – August 18th
YEP tentative program dates May 11th – August 18th
All Youth Programs OFF June 30th – 4th
Youth Programs Rendezvous/Mid-season training July 5th-8th

Compensation: SLC - $480-$530/week depending on experience
CDC - $500-$550/week depending on experience
RSC - $550-$590/week depending upon experience

Plus: Food while camping with crew, transportation, recreational and educational opportunities

Certifications: CDC & RSC Crew Leaders are required to hold a Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR certifications. SLC Leaders required to have a Wilderness First Aid & CPR certification.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Mentor and serve alongside of a crew of 8-16 crew members (depending on which crew) in all day-to-day activities, on the project site and around camp
• Support the physical and emotional wellbeing of the crew members and assistant crew leader
• Participate in RMYC Crew Leader training workshops, field training and mid-session training (Youth Programs Rendezvous) and post session de-rigging/inventory and debriefing
• Transport crew safely in RMYC’s 12/15-passenger vans or other vehicles
• Complete daily and weekly documentation of crew service and activities, time spent serving, assist with mid-season and end of season evaluations, etc. 
• Oversee base camp operations including camp set-up, vehicle maintenance, camp hygiene and all other elements involved with adherence to RMYC policy
• Coordinate projects and logistics with RMYC Staff, Field Coordinator and Project Partners
• Report regularly to the Field Coordinator and Program Manager
• Facilitate Seed Curriculum/Evidence Based curriculum - required educational activities
• Facilitate and manage weekly or weekend recreational opportunities in conjunction with daily schedule, Program Manager and Field Coordinator
• Manage credit card, petty cash, gas cards and food budget
• Perform duties expected of any corps member including trail/service work, meal preparation, cleanup/setup, and other day-to-day duties
• Conduct routine vehicle/driver, camp and project safety audits to uphold the RMYC risk management program
• Adhere to and enforce rules and regulations as specified in the RMYC Employee Guidelines Handbook

Materials & Equipment: Each Leader is responsible for their service and personal clothes, leather boots, sturdy gloves, and personal camping equipment. RMYC will provide staff with crew T-shirts to be worn as a uniform. The crew leaders should role model preparedness every day by keeping a daypack with various essentials including but not limited to change of clothes, water, sunblock, hat, sunglasses, and program supplies as needed. RMYC will coordinate with project partners to ensure that basic tools needed for the program are provided for each project. Group food for camping, group camping gear and other supplies will be provided by RMYC. When not camping food is not provided. 

Qualifications: We are seeking staff who can balance creating a fun/enjoyable experience for the youth while also maintaining a structured and supportive program to meet the program goals. A positive attitude, a flexible mindset, and an ability to adapt to daily schedule changes are key attributes of a successful leader. Crew leaders will have significant experience and leadership qualities including:
• Must be 21 years old – insurance policy for driving
• Leadership experience with youth age 10-18 is required
• Conservation/Youth Corps experience preferred
• Ability to camp and serve in a variety of weather conditions
• Physical ability to be on your feet and serve outside for 8-10 hours a day
• Familiarity with basic conservation and camping skills, including leave no trace practices
• Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently but also collectively, self-motivated, confident, flexible, and open-minded
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate in a written and oral manner
• Appropriate risk management skills
• Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and CPR certification is required (current through your RMYC term) 
• Good driving record (Crew leaders must provide driving reports from DMV)
• High School diploma or GED required – relevant Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Pre-service background screening required including FBI background check
• Must be able to legally employed in the United States
