Job Title: PROGRAM ASSISTANT

Job Description: The Student Conservation Association (SCA), a national force of youth conservation volunteers, has an exciting opportunity in our Program Department.

America’s #1 youth conservation service organization, is seeking a qualified applicant to fulfill a temporary, full time position as a Program Assistant in Oakland, CA.

The Program Assistant will work as part of the western regional team and assist Program Coordinators, Program Managers and others in the operational and some administrative aspects of delivery programs in the portfolio. The Program Assistant will provide support for members and leaders, ensuring both site partner and member outcomes are achieved in a safe and responsible manner. This position ensures quality and consistency of western programs while adhering to SCA Risk Management protocols.

Essential Functions:
* Site level responsibility for high quality delivery of regional programming in accordance with SCA’s safety standards
* Supports SCA leaders during training and in the field
* Participates in and supports local and regional events as needed
* Through field checks, ensures compliance with AmeriCorps regulations
* Assists Program Managers and Coordinators with recruiting and application process for members of regional and local program teams
* Assists Program Managers and National Operations team in interviewing, selecting and training leaders
* Assist HR in enrollment for members as needed
* Roves program in the field and completes appropriate documentation
* Participates in incident response as needed
* Serves as Program Responder and/or Duty Officer and participates in incident response, as needed
* Assists in the operation of the Oakland equipment cache

Supplemental Functions:
* Work in collaboration with regional team members to create and support a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, team work and empowerment.
* At the field level, support the leaders and members in the achievement of high satisfaction levels from agency partners for the completion of project outcomes
* Ensure that each leader and member works within a safe environment, understands and adheres to SCA policy and procedure as outlined in handbooks and SOPs, and has the opportunity for a positive member experience
* Tracks and documents expenses in an accurate and timely manner
* Assists with the completion of written deliverables (reports, blog posts, etc.) by leaders and members
* Maintain current knowledge of all SCA programs and career opportunities
* Foster an environment that promotes teamwork between SCA members, seasonal staff and site

Performance Measures/Accountabilities:
* Understand and model SCA’s Operating Values and Leadership Behaviors
* Understand and abide by policies and guidelines in SCA’s Staff Handbook

Experience and Skills:
* Bachelor’s degree with specific major in field of endeavor or relevant coursework/work experience related to the specific field preferred
* 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience including skills related to the position such as program coordination, leadership in an outdoor setting and experience working with programmatic partners
* Strong cultural competency skills and basic understanding of structural inequities
* Demonstrated experience working with high school age youth from urban communities
* Knowledge of Bay Area communities strongly preferred. 
* Demonstrated team leadership and/or supervisory experience
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
* Ability to work independently and as part of a highly mobile, fast-paced team
* Strong computer skills particularly in MS Office
* SalesForce experience a plus
* Willingness and ability to travel a minimum of 30% of the time
* Current Wilderness First Aid/Responder and CPR certification (or ability to obtain)
* Valid Driver’s license and driving record within SCA guidelines
* Must pass SCA criminal background check
