Job Title: Seasonal Trail Crew Member
Job Description: Trail Crew Member assists in the construction and maintenance of natural surface trails throughout the Park District by performing unskilled and, as capable, semi-skilled jobs in a manner which assures a quality product consistent with Park District's trail building standards.
Essential functions:
•Performs unskilled and, as capable, semi-skilled work in a responsible manner; typical duties including but not limited to:
•Using hand tools to assist in new trail building and finishing as well as decommissioning of unsustainable trails
•Assisting in the construction of trail structures such as bridges, staircases, retaining walls and boardwalks
•Operates small equipment including gas-powered power wheel barrels, ATVs, and utility vehicles to transport materials to the jobsite
•Assists with routine equipment maintenance particularly sharpening and re-hanging of hand tools
◦Works towards the proficiency in a specific skill set including:
◦Bench-cut trail construction, dry stone masonry work, rustic timber construction and joinery, carpentry, rigging systems, tree climbing, chainsaw operation, small equipment operation (Mini-Excavator) and Leave No Trace Skills and Ethics
◦Works full days under the forest canopy without regular access to amenities.
◦Performs related duties as apparent or assigned
Requirements
•Possess a valid Ohio driver's license.
•High school diploma preferred; previous trail building experience preferred
•Ability to walk three miles on unimproved surfaces while carrying up to 50 lbs. in pack weight
•Demonstrated ability to perform variable physical requirements of park maintenance work
•Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays and evenings as required
Work Schedule: Typical work weeks are Monday-Thursday, 6am-4:30pm. Occasional variable weekend work may be required.
Wage: $9.75 per hour
