Job Description: Position: Summer Adult Camping Crew Corps Member

Dates: May 29, 2017 – August 11, 2017 or October 28th (possible extension to thanksgiving)

Description: Full Time, Temporary, Residential Program for summer lasting 11 weeks or 22 weeks

Location: Durango or Salida Co

Living Stipend: $275/week

AmeriCorps Award: AmeriCorps members are eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program of $1,527 (11wks) and $2,199 (22wks).

Ages: 18-25

Overview:

Each crew consists of 6 members and 2 leaders. Crews work and camp for 9 days at a time in front country and back country locations in all types of weather conditions. Schedules may vary but generally are 9 days on and 5 days off. Crews camp the entirety of the days on and throughout the entire season. Housing is not provided by SCC for the time off. SCC crews work in a variety of national forests, national parks, and on other public lands throughout the Southwest. Crews prepare all their own meals and work together as a group to complete all the necessary camp chores.

AmeriCorps Program Overview – Better the land – Better yourself! The Southwest Conservation Corps engages motivated young adults, ages 18 -25, to complete challenging and impactful conservation and service projects throughout Colorado and New Mexico. Projects may include, trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazardous fuels reduction, re-vegetation and local environmental service projects. Crews may also complete technical and/or specialized projects depending on project partner needs, including disaster relief if the opportunity arises. Our programs focus on place based learning, life skills development, conservation service work, appreciation of diversity, civic responsibility, and career development. SCC also provides an opportunity for Corps members to learn about the local environment, environmental issues, and get introductions to recreation and resource management careers.
