Job Title: Project Manager, Trail Crew Lead, Trail crew members

Job Description: Truckee Trails Foundation is currently recruiting for the 2018 field season. We are seeking 1 fixed site, project manager, 1 trail crew leader and up to 7 trail crew members in the Truckee, North Tahoe area. Applicants must be committed to the full season and available to work from May - October.  

Big Chief Project Manager (1 position): The Big Chief Project Manager will be responsible for project oversight and implementation of 7 miles of new multiple use trail, designed and managed for mountain bikes. The project manager must have professional knowledge of trail design and construction, excellent communication skills, and the ability to lead and supervise trail crew members and large volunteer groups. In this position, you will be responsible for scheduling, planning and executing logistics and day to day activities to deliver project objectives in a timely fashion. The project manager will work closely with the USFS trail program coordinator and TTF executive director to ensure project implementation follows the best management practices and resource protection measures set forth in the Big Chief NEPA documentation. At a minimum, the following skills are required. 
• Professional level knowledge of multiple use trail construction methods including berms and features specific to mountain bike design standards.
• Expert equipment operator and maintenance skills for mini to medium size excavators, trail dozers and walk behind loaders.
• Excellent communication and organization skills with the ability to communicate orally and in writing to document project status reports, fulfil environmental monitoring reports and track employees time and performance.
• Desired: CDL, chainsaw certification, multimedia marketing skills. Knowledge of the mountain bike industry and other stakeholder groups interested in successful completion and management of the Big Chief Trail. Ability to ride a mountain bike at an expert level while respecting and relating with other multiple use trail users.  
Pay will be commensurate with experience level.
Big Chief Trail Crew Leader (1 position): The Big Chief trail crew leader will work directly for the project manager and be responsible for implementing project plans and construction activities. This position will at times work independently and be responsible for leading and supervising up to 4 trail crew members ensuring safe and efficient working environment. Expert level trail construction and communication skills are needed in this position. A thorough knowledge of trail construction methods relating to mountain bike design and management is required. Previous experience operating and maintaining trail construction equipment and tools is necessary. 
Hourly rate depending on experience, $16.50 - $19
Seasonal Trail Crew Members:
Big Chief Trail Project Crew Members (4 positions)
Crew members will follow the direction of the project manager and crew leader in carrying out daily work assignments involved in constructing 7 miles of multiple use mountain bike trail. Crew members must be self-starters, possess a strong and safe work ethic and work well in a group environment. Crew members will be expected to work up to 10 hour days in remote locations around heavy equipment using hand and power tools. Prior trail construction experience is desired however training is available for applicants displaying associated knowledge, skills and abilities which contribute to successful project completion. Knowledge and ability to ride mountain bikes at an intermediate level is desired. Respectful and professional communication skills are essential for interacting with multiple use trail users.
Roving Trail Crew Members (3 positions)
Trail crew members will maintain and construct multiple use trail in the Truckee/North Tahoe area. Crew members will work directly with a Trail Crew Leader and are expected to work up to 10 hour days in remote locations under varying and inclement weather conditions. Prior trail construction skills are desired, strong work ethic and group dynamic skills are essential. Expect to walk long distances through the High Sierra mountains carrying heavy loads of tools and equipment utilized in trail maintenance activities. Work will be performed on motorized and non-motorized trails including the Pacific Crest Trail and Trails within the Granite Chief Wilderness area, including possible overnight hitches. Knowledge of multiple use land management objectives are desired. In this position, you will represent the Truckee Trails Foundation and US Forest Service.
Hourly rate, depending on experience $12 - $15
