Job Title: AmeriCorps Member - Leader

Job Description: This AmeriCorps Leadership position will provide support and leadership to our AmeriCorps Trail Crews. AMC AmeriCorps Crews complete a variety of trail and conservation projects throughout the local area and communities, either in Massachusetts or New Hampshire. Projects can range from basic maintenance, to assisting with rock and timber construction projects. From May-August, there will be a total of 4 AmeriCorps trail crews being run: 2 out of the Southern New England base camp at Noble View Outdoor Center in MA, and 2 based out of our North Country base camp at Camp Dodge in NH.

The Leader will play a key role in facilitating 3-weeks of initial training for the AmeriCorps Crews. Then, with one Leader in each region, leaders will divide their time between the two regional AmeriCorps Trail Crews; providing support, technical knowledge, and logistical assistance.

The AmeriCorps Leader, like the crews, will work Monday-Thursday, 10 hour days. Housing and all food will be provided for days-on and days-off at no cost. Full gear list will be provided prior to the season, AMC can aid with gear if needed. Many projects will be based in the backcountry and crews will be camping out for the week. Other projects will be more front country and the crews will return to their base at the end of each day.

After the completion of the crew member’s season, the leader will remain on board for a few weeks to help close down facility and compile season reports.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills directly related to recreational trail management, resource protection, or outdoor leadership, while gaining exposure to career opportunities with AMC’s federal, state, non-profit, and private partners.

Crews are expected to serve 10 hour days, Monday through Thursday. Members must camp with their crew, Monday through Thursday for the duration of the project season. This schedule may be modified due to weather, logistics, or other unforeseen circumstances.
