Job Title: Assistant Volunteer Coordinator - Trails

Job Description: Boulder County Parks and Open Space department is seeking to hire 2 motivated Assistant Volunteer Coordinator - Trails, to assist with running volunteer events on the Trails Crew. We are a small but inclusive crew with many years of experience and a fun-loving attitude. We work on 100+ miles of recreational and regional trail systems that immerse you into the beautiful mountains and plains of Colorado. These seasonal positions will work under direct supervision of a Volunteer Coordinator and will not be responsible for supervising other employees but will help supervise volunteers. 

This position is a seasonal, hourly, non-benefitted position that will work Tuesday- Friday 7:00am - 5:30pm (April - October) with the occasional evening or Saturday project. Must be willing to occasionally adjust work schedule to accommodate volunteer work projects during evenings/weekends with advanced notice. This position will work out of the Parks & Open Space Building located at 5201 St Vrain Road, Longmont, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt (eligible for overtime). 

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.

Hiring Salary Range: $20.04 - $21.05 Hourly

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

-Lead and assist with volunteer projects related to trail construction or maintenance. At times, assist projects related to land management (grounds maintenance, noxious weeds, forestry, restoration, park building maintenance)
-Ability to work weekends spring through fall with advanced notice
-Support Volunteer Coordinators in preparing for volunteer events: Conduct tool inventories, prepare and distribute tools, materials, safety supplies, and communication devices. May be asked to drive a tool trailer following an in-house trailer training
-Support recruitment of new volunteers while on projects. Build and maintain connections with community groups and partners
-Staff a volunteer recruitment table at local trailheads to engage the public and promote volunteer opportunities
-Communicate tactfully and effectively with the public and coworkers, with excellent customer service skills. Demonstrate respect for all identities
-Ability to stay engaged and motivate others with the task at hand
-Record project accomplishments daily and report back to Volunteer Coordinators
-Perform construction and maintenance tasks on natural and improved surface trails with guidance from Trails staff
-Perform semi-skilled duties in the operation of hand tools, power tools, and vehicles
-Perform trail maintenance with little supervision in accordance with Boulder County Trails guidelines
-Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment including use of all required safety equipment
-May perform general maintenance and construction on other park facilities including trailheads and parking lots


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

-Experience working with volunteers 
-Comfortable leading and engaging diverse groups of people
-Experience in trail maintenance or working with Youth Corps crews is a plus, but we are willing to train the right motivated individual.
