Job Title: North Country Trails Field Coordinator (Volunteer Programs and AmeriCorps)

Job Description: We are looking for someone with group management and trail work experience to fill our Field Coordinator position for our North Country Volunteer, AmeriCorps, and Youth Crews in 2023.

In addition to providing technical trail and logistic support to our crews, this position involves administrative office work, collecting work reports, assisting with timesheets, and coordinating with partner organizations, working closely with the Program Supervisor and other trails department staff.



What you’ll be doing:

Help plan and implement formal and informal training to AmeriCorps trail crew members and Youth Crew leaders in collaboration with other AMC Staff. This will include formal training at the beginning of the season (trail work, tool use, safety practices, group leadership, etc.), as well informal project-specific skill training throughout the season as needed.
Provide logistical and field support to 2 AmeriCorps crews who work primarily a Monday-Thursday schedule.
Work with NH-Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) Youth Crews to provide technical and moral support to crew members and leaders
Occasionally train and lead groups of volunteers on trail work project days, including Custom Crew programs for corporate groups, youth groups, etc.
In the fall, lead week-long Volunteer Vacation programs based in NH and in ME
Foster a spirit of cooperation, safety, teamwork, responsible stewardship, and fun while working with crews
Work with Program Supervisor and other AMC staff to coordinate trail projects, daily logistics, supply needs, and maintain AMC trail work standards.
Work with project partners at Federal and State levels in a professional and timely manner, communicating by email, telephone and in person to confirm projects and dates, coordinate scouting and field visits, as well as provide any requested updates on project progress, including descriptions, project report forms, and photos.
Assist with maintenance of tools, equipment and facility as needed
Collect and compile accurate and thorough project reports and safety forms from crews weekly.
Serve as a responder/coordinator in the event of an emergency in the field
Conduct informal check-ins with each member of the crew
Report any relevant notes, questions, or requests to the Program Supervisor promptly.
Drive 12-passenger vans as needed
As needed and as able, be available for occasional weekend work
Qualifications
What we are looking for:

Demonstrated leadership experience
Experience in trail maintenance and construction
Experience spending extended periods of time outdoors
Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
Ability to adapt to changing conditions and maintain strong decision-making skills
Ability to set goals, prioritize tasks, and delegate roles to a group
Basic competency with Excel, Outlook, Word, and other Microsoft products
Strong self-motivation and communication skills
Must hold a valid driver’s license and clear driving record (driving record check will be performed)
Physical Abilities required: Must be able to carry heavy loads (80+ lbs.) for long distances

Compensation and benefits:

Salary Range: $16.50-$18.00/Hour
Onsite housing + meals offered for $45 per week
Free use of AMC Destinations: 4 nights per year

Matching 403(b): 4% with vesting schedule
Paid Sick Time: eligible to accrue up to 10 days
