Job Title: SCA Missouri Boundary and Invasive Plant Team Project Leader

Job Description: The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks an experienced conservation leader to manage members for the Missouri Army Corps of Engineers team for a 6 month period.

The SCA is fielding a crew of five members and 1 leader to demarcate the boundaries of management areas, manage invasive species, and participate in a hickory and oak reforestation project. The project will require the use of a variety of hand tools as well as, herbicide application, brush cutters, chainsaws, surveying equipment, and Trimble GPS units. This crew will be the second SCA crew to work on this project.

Program Dates: Early March to late June, 2017

Primary Responsibilities:

Crew Manager
-Ensure successful, quality, and timely work for a five person team
-Guide crew dynamics and facilitate teamwork
-Actively manage project/member risk to maintain a safe work environment

Technical Advisor
-Assist in the technical skills training of corps members
-Manage the quality & technique of work performed
-Promote leadership development within the team and evaluate success & potential

Partnership Representative
-Manage relationship with agency partner
-Work collaboratively with agency on program logistics
-Ensure successful and timely completion of work projects

Program Administrator
-Communicate with SCA field support staff
-Complete required program reporting and documentation
-Manage budget and necessary purchasing for crew and project
-Ensure compliance with all SCA Risk Management policies & procedures

Qualifications:
-Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
-Must have ability to legally work in the US
-Minimum 2 years prior experience supervising young adults in an outdoor setting
-Must be able to attend mandatory Crew Leader training (early March)
-Current First Aid & CPR required by the start of training
-Experience working with young adults (ages 18-25), teaching in an educational environment a plus
-Experience with invasive plant management preferred (i.e. landscaping, gardening, seed collection, invasive plant removal, and plant ID)
-Ability to hike up to 4 miles per day and perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more
-Ability to work and live in the outdoors exposed to elements for extended periods of time
-Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
-Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards

Desired Skill Set:
-Current Wilderness First Aid or higher and CPR
-Previous work in conservation corps, environmental field work, or environmental education
-Experience with herbicide use and backpack sprayers
-S212 chainsaw certification or Game of Logging certification

Compensation: $530-560/week depending on experience and certifications, paid bi-weekly. Housing, seasonal benefits, and food during work days also provided.
