Job Title: SCA Catalina Island Trails Project Leader

Job Description: The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks applicants to lead, educate, and inspire young adults on the fall Catalina Island Trail Corps team.

The SCA is fielding one crew to work with the Catalina Island Conservancy to construct ten miles of new trail. The project will consist of digging out a benchcut along pre-existing social and animal trails, with minimal structure work.

Leader Training (Oakland, CA): September 26 – October 2, 2016
Member Program Dates (tentative): October 9, 2016 – January 28, 2017

Primary Responsibilities:
-Act as a Crew Manager guiding crew dynamics and facilitating teamwork
-Function as a Technical Advisor assisting in training corps members to complete quality work
-Serve as a Partnership Representative managing relationship with agency partner and ensuring successful and timely completion of work projects
-Perform tasks as a Program Administrator by communicating with SCA staff, completing documentation and managing a budget

Qualifications:
-Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
-Must have ability to legally work in the US
-Must be able to attend mandatory Crew Leader training: September 26 – October 2, 2016
-Current Wilderness First Aid & CPR required by the start of training (Wilderness First Responder preferred)
-Experience working with young adults (ages 18-25), teaching in an educational environment a plus
-Experience with conservation work skills or related skills, preferred i.e. trail maintenance, trail construction, chainsaw, carpentry, landscaping, and gardening
-Ability perform manual, physical labor for up to 10 hours per day, exposed to the elements and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more
-Valid driver’s license and Motor Vehicle Record that meets SCA standards required
-Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards

Compensation: Weekly salary starts at $545/per week (depending on experience)
