Job Title: Trail Builder (Facility Operations Assistance Title)

Job Description: High Peaks Trail Builder (Facility Operations Assistant 1) 8 Positions Available -Rate of pay is 15.25/hr., 5-month seasonal job

Work includes being part of a 5-person trail building crew, working on the new trail up Cascade Mtn in the High Peaks Wilderness. Each week the entire crew will spend the week in the backcountry, camping out in tents. Most of the project is located 2-5 miles from the nearest road and will require a strenuous hike with a heavy pack to get to each week. The projects will include working on primary trail building, campsite hardening, relocating privies, installing turnpiking, rock placement, bridge building, drainage work and clearing blowdown. Trail Builders will work with and maintain hand tools, griphoists and other tools to complete projects. Trail Builders will work under the supervision of a Trail Crew Supervisor but may work alone or as part of the group during the day.

Minimum Qualifications
-Must be able to work in the backcountry, living out of a tent for 5 days at a time between May and October in the High Peaks Wilderness.
-Must be able to carry a 50+ pound pack 6 miles, over rugged terrain, to get to the work site.
-Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
-Should have experience in backcountry trail work, preferably sustainable trail building techniques and trail hardening experience.
-Must have a valid Class D Driver’s License
